Transform Your Classroom with Professional Learning Workshops

Pathways Collective is a new virtual professional learning series from Pathways to Inclusive Education, offering educators ready-to-use strategies and practical tools to bring inclusion to life in every classroom. Each virtual workshop (consisting of either four or five sessions) is offered three times throughout the school year, giving you options that work best for you and your busy schedules.

Offerings by Susan Shapiro

Susan Shapiro, our newest team member, joins PIE after working seven years on the professional learning team at CAST, the non-profit research and development organization that developed the UDL framework. Susan is on the faculty at the University of New Hampshire where she teaches courses about disability, inclusion and schools.

Educators, school administrators and learning support staff are invited to learn how to use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to strengthen inclusive education in this five-session virtual workshop series. UDL is an instructional design framework that makes learning more accessible for students with and without disabilities. The goal of UDL is honoring and building “learner agency” – the capacity of learners to make decisions in the service of their goals (CAST, 2024). Whether new to UDL or a seasoned practitioner, this series promises to deepen your understanding of the big ideas of UDL, and expand your capacity to implement UDL into your professional practice. Both individual educators and school teams are invited to attend. Sessions will be recorded and participants will have access to the recordings for two weeks after each session. Live sessions will be interactive.

  • Understanding How Students Vary as Learners
  • Identifying Barriers in Designs, Not People
  • Designing Instructional Options to Remove Barriers
  • Making Educational Materials Accessible
